McKinley Aloha Aina Recycling ewaste

On August 27, 2011, area legislators hosted an Aloha Aina Earth Day at McKinley High School (8am to 2pm).  Scrap metal discards (all appliances, beverage containers (Hi-5), cooking oil, cellphones and printer cartridges will all help generate revenues for McKinley school programs.  This year, Access Information Management also provided free shredding of confidential documents from 8:00 - 11:00 am (maximum of 2 banker boxes per car).  Prevent ID theft!

Contact Rene Mansho, Schnitzer Steel Community Relations Director at (808) 306-1876 to find out how much your recyclables have raised for area schools.

Last June, urban Honolulu legislators sponsored the first "Nourishing Our Neighborhoods & Aloha 'Aina Earth Day Recycling" project to benefit Washington Middle School and the Hawaii Foodbank. Partnering with local companies (including Schnitzer Steel, Times Markets, and Goodwill Industries), residents were able to drop off computers, cooking oil, cellular phones, newspapers, used clothing, and batteries to recycle or be donated.

With overwhelming support from local companies, organizations and volunteers, the event collected 10 tons of electronic equipment for recycling, 812 pounds of canned goods and over $1,000 in revenues for the two schools. What a great opportunity for residents to recycle safely, promote a sustainable lifestyle and raise monies for local schools!
